This is the road we drive every day
I-380’s northern terminus is the I-81 interchange at Dunmore, four miles from our shop on Gibson Street. We run this road to reach I-80, and we run it to reach the Poconos.
That matters to you in one specific way: we know where you can safely be worked on and where you cannot. Exit 8 northbound and Exit 20 southbound have different shoulder situations. When you tell us your exit and direction, we already know what we are driving into and what to bring.
Twenty-eight miles, six interchanges, one truck that lives at the top of it.
Winter is when I-380 calls come in
I-380 climbs into the Pocono plateau through Pocono Summit, Tobyhanna, and Gouldsboro country that runs colder and takes more snow than Scranton does at the bottom of the hill. On the same night, the top of this road and the bottom are two different climates.
What that produces, in order of how often we see it:
- Gelled diesel. Untreated fuel clouds and gels in a hard cold snap, and the truck dies at the worst point on the climb.
- Gelled or frozen DEF. DEF freezes at about 12°F. If the heater circuit has failed, the derate follows.
- Frozen air lines. Moisture in the system freezes and the brakes will not release.
- Dead batteries. Cold cuts cranking amps, and a battery that was marginal in November is finished in January.
- Slide-offs. Into a wide, soft, wooded shoulder which means a winch-out, not a push.
Federal rules under 49 CFR §392.14 require extreme caution in hazardous conditions, and require that operation be discontinued when conditions become sufficiently dangerous. If the road has turned and you are parked because of it, you made the right call. Sit tight and call us.
What we bring to you on I-380
- Semi-truck tire replacement casing brought to your exit, mounted, torqued to spec → Tire Replacement
- Mobile truck repair air leaks, starters, alternators, hoses, slack adjusters, derate faults
- Fuel and DEF delivery including anti-gel treatment in cold weather → Fuel Delivery
- Jump starts and battery service
- Winch-out and recovery off the shoulder, out of the median → Winch-Out
- Heavy-duty towing Class 7 and 8, tractors, loaded trailers, combination units → Heavy Duty Towing
- Accident and rollover recovery with PSP and PennDOT coordination
Northbound off Moosic Mountain
I-380 joins I-84 for the last four miles and crosses Moosic Mountain before dropping into the Lackawanna Valley at Dunmore. Loaded units come down that descent with heat in the brakes.
If you are parked at the bottom with hot drums or an air system that will not build, do not chase the last four miles into Scranton. We are already at that end of the road.

This company was hired through our RV warranty Ford to pick up our motorhome on Saturday. It's now Tuesday they have our key. We were ghosted five times before being told that they did not have the equipment to handle the job. This company is very unprofessional on so many levels! Use at your own risk!Posted on Google![]()
